Coupled Fluid–Solid Numerical Simulation for Flow Field Characteristics and Supporting Performance of Flexible Support Cylindrical Gas Film Seal

A new type of cylindrical gas film seal (CGFS) with a flexible support is proposed according to the working characteristics fluid dynamic in high-rotational-speed machinery, such as aero-engines and centrifuges. Compared CGFS without support, presents stronger radial floating since it absorbs vibration reduces thermal deformation rotor system. Combined structural seal, an analytical model wave foil established. Based on fluid-structure coupling analysis method, three-dimensional flow field straight-groove simulated study effects operating parameters steady-state thickness, eccentricity, number foils equivalent stress support. Simulation results show that stiffness increases significantly when depth groove increases. When thickness increases, average first decreases then stabilizes. Furthermore, affects thickness. Therefore, selecting foils, buffer capacity should be considered simultaneously.
